Our Heavy Rail Business Unit is a 200 strong employer of rail professionals developing and delivering multi-disciplinary design solutions across permanent way, signalling, telecoms, electrical, mechanical, civils and geotechnical engineering. Recent impressive project wins with Network Rail and national major Contractors have provided opportunities to grow our resource pool at all levels across our UK offices with current key projects including Crossrail, HS2 (London/Birmingham/Manchester), S&C Renewals programme, Borders Railway, North Doncaster Chord, CASR and a wide ranging portfolio across the UK and internationally.
The Role
URS are currently recruiting for Mini Operating Unit Manager to provide leadership and a focal point for our Heavy Rail Business Unit in Glasgow.
The (systems) Mini Operating Unit is responsible for the delivery of railway system designs covering; Signalling, Telecommunications, Permanent Way and E&P disciplines.
The role will be responsible for ensuring that staff are productive and that work carried out by the unit meets organisational health and safety, welfare, security, environmental and quality requirements. The post holder will monitor, measure and report on progress within the unit against agreed business targets and will agree strategy with the Regional Manager regards delivery of objectives.
The post holder will be the focal point for links with senior management and will be responsible for briefing staff on technical and business related issues.
Expectations
The role requires significant Business Development; we require a commercially astute manager who is fully familiar with market conditions & will contribute significantly to tendering and winning work.
Building strong, effective relationships with external Clients and internal teams and have a collaborative spirit with other MOU Managers to make best use of available resources, maximise performance measured against Business Plan objectives and achieving an appropriate and agreed level of personal sold time.

Education/Qualifications/Experience
• Degree in a suitable engineering discipline is preferable
• Member of professional institute
• Held similar position within heavy rail for 7 – 10 years
• Be a member of a professional Institute
• Significant Business Development experience including tendering and winning bids
Have built up a strong contact list within Scotland
