Engineering Manager (Perm)

Our client provides integrated construction, engineering and maintenance services
You will need:
• Acceptance as CEM by Network Rail.
• Charted Engineer
• Recognised as a member of more than one professional engineering body
• Degree
• CITB 5 day Health & Safety course plus hold CSCS Contracts Manager or better.
• Significant Engineering Delivery / Design experience in railway engineering.
• Technically competent and an innovator where appropriate
• Good people skills, including performance management
• Experience in tender winning and delivery.
• Have the ability to develop and lead other technical leaders and engineers.
• A good understanding of Contract formats and T&C’s
• A good understanding and application of current Health & Safety legislation, including HSWA and CDM.
• Good communicator (written & verbally with clients, colleagues and the public)
• Able to work unsupervised
• Good organiser & ability to prioritise.
• Computer literate and competent in the use of core Microsoft Office applications
• A positive attitude
• Leads by example
• Methodical, conscientious and organised
• Forward thinking, proactive and assertive
• Flexible in hours of work and willingness to travel / work away from home from time to time
They will therefore be required to:
• Responsible for maintaining engineering standards, technical excellence and competence of engineers within the Signalling team to deliver safe, constructible design solutions, to programme and within budget.
• The post holder will carry out CEM duties for all nominated schemes and will provide the focal client facing Engineering role.
• Will be required to liaise with Engineers and Engineering Managers across other sectors to establish a consistent approach and to promote collaborative working.
• The position may require some technical and operational support to Rail Sector tendering teams.
• Build and maintain a motivated Engineering management and technical team
• Be Line Manager to a number of different discipline biased team members.
• Ensure that adequate training is provided for his/her direct reports.
• Carry out PDR’s and manage non-performance through coaching, training, disciplinary measures or other appropriate measures supported by HR
• Liaise to ensure that the project teams and suppliers are designing out risk at the earliest opportunity on projects.
• Ensure designs are buildable and incorporate value engineering where appropriate.
• Operational support to the tender bidding process.
• Identify and manage Interdisciplinary Review of design submissions prior to submission to clients
• Lead and direct the teams Project Engineers during the project works ensuring compliance to client and governmental standards and requirements.
• Provide sound technical support to the teams Project Manager(s).
• To have strong relationships with clients in more than one geographical area and to build on these.
• Engage with the Client to ensure the positive portrayal of the projects within the sector and to act on feedback
• Engage with 3rd parties such as suppliers and subcontractors to ensure standards in engineering and delivery are maintained
• Contribute to the production of technical solutions to problems through innovation and value engineering in order to maximise opportunity and minimise risk to project margins.
• Understands the impact of change and the need to communicate change to the senior team and managing Quantity Surveyor.
