Railway Systems Engineer – Consultancy
London
£40,000 - 55,000 (depending on level) plus benefits.
Our client is a leading provider of rail consultancy services and is well established in the UK and international rail industry. The Systems and Systems Engineering team has secured work on large rail upgrade and renewal programmes for clients such as the Department for Transport, Network Rail and Transport for London (incl. London Underground), Train Owners and Operators, providing clients with recognised Systems Engineering skills, overlaying world class rail expertise and domain knowledge to help deliver complex high value projects.
Motivated, professional degree qualified engineers are sought with strong rail systems backgrounds involving rolling stock, power and track interfaces, signalling and other areas of integration. Strong interpersonal skills are essential, as are excellent communication, analytical and problem solving skills. Ideally you will be a chartered engineer (or working towards chartership) from a relevant professional engineering institution.
Successful candidates will also have experience in some or all of the following competencies:
• Engineering and project management
• Requirements identification/ capture (incl. operation of DOORS or equivalent tools)
• Development of ‘Concept of Operation’ documents and system architectures
• System Modelling
• Design specification development
• Verification and Validation
• Interface management
• Configuration management
• Testing and Commissioning
Systems Engineering experience from outside the rail industry (e.g. aerospace, military, software industries) would be welcome but candidates should have an understanding of the structure and operation of the UK rail industry. Ideally you will have recent and demonstrable experience of applying Systems Engineering to rail projects in either the UK or overseas. Any applications from systems engineers who also have technical knowledge of ATC and ERTMS systems are encouraged.
