Background
As part of the Sub-Surface Railway Upgrade Programme (SUP) new 7 car (S7) trains are being purchased for the Hammersmith & City, Circle and District Lines. These trains have different characteristics to the existing trains (e.g. they are longer) so the S7 Infrastructure Programme has been formed to identify and implement changes to the existing railway infrastructure to enable the trains to be introduced into service.
The role of the Integration & Top Down Engineering (TDE) Team is to:
•Develop integrated conceptual designs for the legacy signalling and platform assets to support the introduction of the S7 trains on the SSR network in a way that meets the Sponsor’s requirements
•Manage the integration of all signalling and station designs
•Resolve system-level conflicts involving the delivery of all S7 works in the station environment.
Role Purpose
To establish the optimum stopping position for the new trains in each platform and ensure that the positioning of assets in the platform environment results in an integrated system design which meets the Sponsor’s requirements.
Technical Leadership
•Establish the optimum stopping position for the new trains (using 3D Modelling as required), direct CAD Engineers in the production of station layout designs and develop supporting documentation.
•Provide technical direction on interfaces and systems integration issues to engineers working on projects affected by the station layout designs.
•Lead platform level design reviews to ensure the integration of assets and systems
•Understand & communicate complex engineering issues to both internal staff and the supply chain and take a pro-active stance in their resolution.
People & Resource Management
•Manage CAD resource assigned to the Team.
Systems and Processes
•Provide guidance on the integration process to engineers working on projects affected by the station layout designs and ensure that it is applied.
Knowledge, Skill & Experience
•Chartered Engineer or equivalent, with substantial engineering experience in relevant engineering roles/industries with a track record of providing line management in an engineering environment.
•Knowledge of engineering standards and operational processes in a railway environment is essential.
•Ability to think from a systems perspective, with good communication skills, a high level of integrity, impact and influence, self motivation and ability to act on own initiative.
•Ability to read and assess technical and architectural 2D and 3D design drawings
•Ability to understand from the design drawings and other documentation physical and spatial requirements, relationships and dependencies between assets e.g. between train doors and platform barriers
•Ability to assess and determine where designs and requirements conflict and propose optimised solutions, detailing any assumptions, dependencies, compromise or constraints for each proposal.
•Ability to perform assessments in a holistic and systematic manner
