TCMS Systems Engineer, Electronics, software engineering, on going contract based Derby, £neg-exc
Rail rolling stock engineering, will consider applications from those who have performed in similar roles in aerospace, defence or automotive sectors
Implementing a Systems Engineering methodology in the development of the Train Control and Management System (TCMS). The primary activities involved in the role are to develop the train control philosophies, define the hardware architectures and software requirements, design, implement and test the software, commission the control system on the trains post manufacture and investigate and determine solutions for any problems found in use.
The role requires familiarity with real time embedded software languages and their use in electro-mechanical control systems. Knowledge of Ethernet technology and user interfaces, along with typical programming languages used in the development of these would be of significant benefit in this role. A sound knowledge of Systems and Software Engineering methodologies is also of importance and the ability to work closely with engineers across functions is essential.
Depending on skills and experience, the individuals task allocation can be focussed either towards software engineering or systems engineering activities
Develop the train control concept for the bids and delivery projects through analysis of the stakeholder requirements and interaction with the wider systems engineering teams, taking into account the capabilities of the TCMS product.
Develop the TCMS hardware and software architectures and define the software requirements which are to be achieved in order to deliver the train level control concept.
Carry out the software development life-cycle (design, implementation, testing and maintenance) to deliver the software modules for release to the projects.
Support the on-train testing of the control system, including the preparation of test specifications and the execution and management of the tests, both on test infrastructure and on the customer’s railway.
