Alistair Darling has appointed Gerry Doherty, General Secretary of TSSA, to the Commission for Integrated Transport (CfIT). His appointment started on New Year’s Day and is for three years.
Mr. Doherty was elected general secretary of the second biggest rail union in the UK in March 2004. He is a long serving railwayman and worked for ScotRail before joining TSSA in 1991. He is also a serving member of the General Council of the TUC.
He said, “I am honoured and privileged to represent TSSA on the Commission for Integrated Transport. I look forward to working with the government and other members on the Commission.” Gerry Doherty is the only trade union leader to be appointed to the Commission.
