August 24th 2005
Adrian Shooter, chairman of Chiltern Railways, has stepped in to chair ATOC as a temporary measure following the departure of Keith Ludeman, chief executive of Go-Ahead Rail Division.
Adrian was also re-elected as deputy chairman of ATOC and will fill both roles pending the election of a new chairman. Dean Finch of First Group has been re-elected as treasurer. With the winding down of the SRA, ATOC says it will be redouble its efforts to speak up for the rail industry. Individual board members have been appointed spokesmen.
Adrian Shooter, as acting chairman, will be responsible for relations with government and Network Rail at a senior level. All these changes take effect immediately.
Paying an affectionate tribute to Keith Ludeman’s two year term as chairman, George Muir, ATOC Director General said, “Keith has been a great ambassador, not only for train operators but also for the railways as a whole. As our Chairman, he provided first class leadership in articulating the essential contribution train operators have made to improving the railway and he ensured this was understood at a critical time in the railway’s development, especially through the Government’s Rail Review of 2004.”
Adrian Shooter is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, Institution of Mechanical Engineers and of the Chartered Institute of Transport. He joined British Rail in 1970 as an Engineering Management Trainee.
