Contractors and consultants, looking for railway infrastructure work in this country, may be forgiven for being envious of the Chinese.
Hebie and Sanxi provinces in northern China will soon have a new 189 km railway, joining their respective capital cities of Shijiazhuang and Taiyuan. Construction work has started and completion is programmed for 2008.
Passenger numbers on the 200 kph new railway, are forecast to exceed 15 million per year in each direction! Ninety-four bridges, and thirty-two tunnels are to be built, with the longest tunnel likely to be 27.8 km long.
