As Lead Engineer – HV Systems SCADA you’ll provide technical and professional leadership for the HV Systems SCADA system, leading on the upholding of standards and technical requirements for the discipline. They provide assurance that design and construction, testing and commissioning of the HV Systems SCADA assets meet project requirements and work to resolve issues where appropriate.

About the role:

  • Technical lead of the HV Systems SCADA discipline;
  • Lead the upholding and development of requirements, specifications and standards which deliver the HV Systems SCADA such that they deliver HS2 objectives and mitigate environmental impacts, within the programme budget;
  • Provide technical expertise and advice relating to the HV Systems SCADA to both the wider organisation and external stakeholders as required;
  • Assure that the design for the HV Systems SCADA on the HS2 Railway is configured and installed in accordance with standards and technical requirements and where necessary support in resolving issues in accordance with HS2 Governance Procedures;
  • Support the Head of HV Systems Engineering in engaging and consulting as appropriate with internal teams impacted by the HV SCADA system design, particularly EMS (Engineering Management System), Tunnel Ventilation SCADA, M&EE SCADA, Stations SCADA, Depot SCADA, Infrastructure Management and Systems Delivery teams, ensuring that all relevant systems and sub-systems are considered providing a holistic approach;
  • Support the Head of HV Systems Engineering to ensure an integrated, consistent approach to delivering the HV Systems SCADA design, delivering the range of activities associated with the advisory and client role of the Technical Authority;
  • Support the definition and the management of interfaces between the HV Systems SCADA and other infrastructure systems in particular EMS (Engineering Management System) Tunnel Ventilation SCADA, M&EE SCADA, Stations SCADA and Depot SCADA.
  • Ensure that HS2 Technical Governance arrangements are followed, carry out peer reviews and make recommendations for improvements where necessary;
  • Develop and implement the use of best practice and innovative engineering techniques, technologies and processes, driving consistency and helping to identify opportunities for efficiencies.
  • Actively promote and embed Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all your work. Support and comply with all organisational initiatives, policies and procedures on EDI.

About You:

Skills:

  • Provides specialist technical support and leadership on all HV Systems SCADA specific scientific, technical and engineering principles to those working directly with project development / delivery teams /contractors.
  • Ability to be a Standard Discipline Owner / Subject Matter Expert for the HV Systems SCADA.
  • Able to provide specialist technical, commercial management and leadership skills to support project development / delivery teams.
  • Ability to communicate most discipline-specific technical ideas to colleagues, based largely on examples of application.
  • Ability to apply many principles relating to standards, safety and the environment and able to articulate the rest.
  • Applies principles and methods that ensure effective information management, modelling and data security.

Knowledge:

  • Applicable UK construction regulations including CDM requirements.
  • The application of the Common Safety Method (CSM) for risk evaluation and assessment.
  • Understanding of the Regulatory/Legislative Framework
  • Commercial awareness including understanding of cost delivery, schedule targets and the need to deliver an integrated solution that meets all functional requirements.
  • Understanding of other Railway Systems disciplines and how they interface with the HV Systems SCADA.
  • Chartered Engineer/Membership of an appropriate professional institution or the equivalent experience.

Type of Experience:

  • Experience in managing multi-disciplinary engineering, safety standards and activity on large complex major projects/ programmes within a complex infrastructure delivery programme.
  • Experience of managing competing project and engineering demands, with cost and schedule implications.
